Adolescents
Adolescence is often a tumultuous time for children and their families. My five year training in public schools rigorously prepared me to observe and make sense of how adolescents express their thoughts and feelings. Middle and high school aged children are often able to make good use of therapy, broadening their understandings and learning to find healthier ways to relate to themselves and others. I help children with a wide range of difficulties which may impact their development and their relationships with family and peers. I offer an initial appointment to address parent’s concerns without the child present, and periodic meetings with parents are offered throughout therapy.
Adults
People seek out therapy for a variety of reasons. Sometimes there is a very obvious and acute problem, but often times the issue is less tangible. Having another person who is trained to help you understand your thoughts and feelings can lead to insights and solutions previously out of your awareness. Psychotherapy is an opportunity for emotional growth and can help you gain a new perspective on yourself and your relationships. Our work together is focused around developing a relationship of trust and safety in which to explore.
Perinatal and Postpartum Mothers
Many women experience shifts in their emotions during pregnancy and after childbirth. These changes range from mild to severe and play a key role in the development of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). PMADs are typically caused by a combination of factors: e.g., changes in hormones, a prior history of a mood or anxiety disorder, the physical toll of labor and delivery, lack of sleep, and the mental and physical stress or caring for a newborn, often in isolation from family and community. Seeking mental health treatment and support is critical, since the impact of not seeking treatment extends beyond the mother to the baby and the rest of the family unit. If you are grappling with the isolation and grief of infertility, pregnancy loss, postpartum depression or anxiety, therapy can provide you with the privacy and understanding to process your intense and difficult feelings. I offer home visits to alleviate the stress of getting to appointments and finding childcare.
